J. Hanley's For Autism
Check out our social story series for autism! This is a free and ongoing video series teaching self defense concepts, practice, and safety for children with autism.
- Our goal is to teach ways to redirect physical energy at home safely, while introducing self defense and ways to practice. For example, if a child hits a family pet, we teach that hitting is for self defense, and we practice at home on pillows or mitts, we are gentle with our pets!
- Self defense and safety is a scary topic for all children, and when the child learns through the lens of Autism, it can become much scarier. Loud noises, fast movements, and unfamiliar scenarios become over stimulating quickly.
- Also, explaining that a child may hit and kick to defend themselves, but may not hit and kick loved ones, teachers, and pets is a difficult concept to grasp.
- Through this video series we want to provide easy practice routines, simple repeatable phrases, and fun but realistic concepts to help families stay safe at home, at school, and in daily life.
*Update: As of 2022 we are proud to have shifted into private lessons and seminars in person for children with autism, with a focus in the pre-teen age group. We currently have filled our available time frames, but availability is always shifting so feel free to reach out and ask us any questions about private lessons or self defense advice related to autism. We continue to donate 10% of proceeds from retail sales and hope to create more free videos in the future!
